Ed "Chip" Sanford
Administrator

Ed "Chip" Sanford joined Sumner Health Systems in July 2006 and is responsible for the operation of Riverview Regional Medical Center.

Prior to joining Sumner Health Systems, Sanford was employed by Quorum Health Resources from 1999-2006 as CEO Cumberland County Hospital in Burkesville, Kentucky. Sanford began his career in healthcare administration in 1979 as a commissioned officer in the United States Army Medical Service Corps serving in various position of leadership. His military career culminated as the Administrator & COO Weed Army Community Hospital, Fort Irwin California in 1999. Sanford holds a Bachelor of Arts from Trinity University, San Antonio, Texas and a Master of Healthcare Administration from Baylor University, Waco Texas. He is a fellow of the American college of Healthcare Executives and has participated in numerous community and healthcare leadership positions.

 

Scott A. Tongate
Assistant Administrator

Scott A. Tongate and Carthage General Hospital joined Sumner Regional Health Systems in February 2004. After CGH merged with Smith County Memorial Hospital to form Riverview Regional Medical Center in early 2007, Tongate was named assistant administrator.

Tongate has held positions in other medically related companies including: Home Health Office Manager, PHC Home Health; Controller, Clay County Hospital; Chief Financial Officer, Carthage General Hospital from March 1994 until December 1997; and Manager, Carter, Young Lankford, & Roach (now The Horne Group), a healthcare related accounting firm. Tongate has a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Tennessee Technological University and a Master of Business Administration from Cumberland University. Tongate is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, Tennessee Hospital Association, Hospital Alliance of Tennessee, Rural Healthcare Association of Tennessee, Rotary Club, Smith County Chamber of Commerce, and the Rock City/Rome Volunteer Fire Department. Tongate is a past president of the Carthage Rotary Club, was distinguished as Who's Who in Finance and Industry, and has been a member of numerous other councils, committees, and workgroups of professional and community groups.

 

Kathy Lewis
Chief Nursing Officer / VP Clinical Services

Kathy Lewis became a part of Sumner Regional Health Systems when Carthage General Hospital joined the system in 2004. After CGH merged with Smith County Memorial Hospital to form Riverview Regional Medical Center in early 2007, Lewis was named CNO/VP of Clinical Services over the new, combined facility.

A Smith County native, Lewis has 40 years of healthcare experience, including 35 years of nursing experience, with 30 years in nursing administration. Her other experience includes QI coordinator, Infection Control and Employee Health Nurse.

Lewis has an Associate of Arts in Nursing from Middle Tennessee State University, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Tennessee Technological University, and a Master of Science in Nursing from Vanderbilt University. Lewis is a member of Sigma Theta Tau National Honor Society of Nursing, the American Nurses Association, American Organization of Nurse Executives, Tennessee Nurses Association and the Middle Tennessee Organization of Nurse Executives.
