“Green” Features:
In an effort to be good stewards of our environment, Sumner Regional, along with project partners, has incorporated the following "green" and/or sustainable elements or initiatives into the SRMC Patient Tower project to create a healthier, more environmentally-friendly building.
Site Selection - By adding on to the existing facility using currently developed land, the facility did not further disturb any undeveloped land that would have been necessary to build a replacement facility.
Community Connectivity - Site design incorporates a layout of sidewalks and cross walks that connect the campus back to the downtown community on a pedestrian scale.
Landscaping - Approximately half of the plants are native species which are more water efficient and environmentally friendly.
Architectural - We have introduced natural light into interior spaces, where possible. We are also using double-insulated, low-e, energy-efficient glass.
Interiors - We utilized low-VOC (volatile organic compound) paints throughout the building for a healthier workplace.
Mechanical -The airside economizers for the air handlers are viewed as "green" because they reduce the usages of the chillers when the outside air temperature is low enough to provide suitable cooling. We have also designed around the highest efficiency equipment to reduce electrical and natural gas demands. Variable Frequency Drives are installed on the air handlers, pumps, chillers, and cooling towers to allow for reduction in electrical demand during off-peak load operation.
Plumbing - We have auto sensors on all public water closets, lavatories and urinals for increased water efficiency.
Electrical - We limited the incandescent fixtures to areas that needed full dimming capabilities, used more efficient metal halide in high ceilings (like in front lobby), and used even more energy-efficient fluorescents throughout the entire building.
Construction - The following items are being recycled from demolition:
- Copper scraps
- Copper piping from demolition
- Sheet metal scrap
- Structural steel from canopy demolition
Approximately 60-75% of the materials have been obtained and/or manufactured within 500 miles keeping transportation costs, fuel use, and emmissions down to a regional level.
